GoDaddy India currently advertises a .com at ₹1 for the first year, and lists the regular rate at ₹1,599 per year after that. That is not GoDaddy being greedy about domains specifically — the .com registry sets a wholesale floor, so no registrar renews far below it. The first-year price was a one-time promo, never the real rate. Other extensions follow the same shape at their own registry-driven rates, and every add-on attached to the domain renews as its own line item. The ₹1 headline is real, but a 3-year purchase is required and the two additional years cost ₹1,599 each. So the checkout math is ₹1 + ₹1,599 + ₹1,599 = about ₹3,199 up front for three years (roughly ₹1,066 a year averaged) before taxes, then ₹1,599/yr is the listed regular rate. You are prepaying two full-price years to get the offer, so compare that 3-year total with another registrar's 3-year total, not with its first-year sticker price.

Verisign's .com wholesale price rise on 1 November 2026
Verisign, the .com registry, announced on 23 April 2026 that the wholesale fee for every new and renewal .com registration will rise from $10.26 to $10.97 on 1 November 2026. Its agreement allows increases of up to 7% in each of the final four years of each six-year pricing period, so further rises are possible each year through 2029.
Registrars set their own retail prices, so nobody can tell you today what any registrar will charge after November. What you can do: if you plan to keep a .com, renewing it for several years before 1 November 2026 at a price you are happy with is a reasonable hedge — at any registrar, not just GoDaddy.
